@nevspins and I are heading down to VA for her cousins graduation today. So I woke up at 5am to get in a run and get some shit done before hitting the road for 7 hours. Getting out of the shower after my run I heard Nev playing Angry Birds in the other room. This got me thinking how much I miss the sounds of *actual* birds chirping.
Then I discovered that she was still asleep. I was hearing real birds chirping. That’s when it me even harder that I need to get more nature into my life. As a kid I loved vacationing with my family in Lake George, NY. We went up almost every summer, and many winters. My parents also took us up to East Branch, NY where my Uncle owns some land in the middle of mountains, valleys and rivers (i.e. nowhere). Mountain climbing, swimming in ice cold rivers, frisbee, lawn darts, wiffle ball, bicycle riding; you name it, we did it.
I can’t thank my parents enough for giving me those opportunities as I grew up. I love NYC; it’s the capital of the world and a beautiful testament to the abilities of man. But I don’t think I’m meant to live in these conditions, at least not forever.
